Profile

I have been married to Walter for 45 years. We have two children. Catherine is a teacher who lives in Polokwane. Wayne is a project manager for a Cape Town company and is engaged to a lovely young lady, Anelle.

Walter is supportive of my crafting endeavours, either by being my critic or buying me "machines" to help me with my crafts.

I have a Cricut (cutting) machine which I just love as well as a Trouvaille and a Cuttlebug, both use dies to cut and emboss.

I started making cards seriously 18 months ago when I attended classes at Country Crafts with Hendrien Vosloo. More recently I have been invited to also give some classes.

Your comments on this blog will be most welcome.

DRESSING TABLE CARD

Tuesday was card making class at Country Crafts.  This is such a nice shape card and lends itself to such a lot of pretty embellishments.

Card made in class

Card made at home

As you can see if I like a card then I usually make more than one.  The card made in class used paper from the Country Companions pack, but the second card was made using scraps (all bits and pieces are saved for 'just in case'). Embellisments are bits of lace, flat backed pearls, pearls on a string as well as charms with a few punched flowers and leaves. The lady on the mirror is from a set of stamps - sorry cannot remember the make. Thank you Ursula for a great class.

PINK FANTASY

The pattern for this card came from Hobbyjournaal 85.

The following materials were used:
Marianne design - From the Don & Daisy stamp sets and coloured in with watercolour pencils
Marianne dies for the white background, some of the large leaves and the cream spray
Patterned paper from a Wilson & Maclagen paper pack
Fern leaves - Joy die
Small leaves & flowers punched with Papermania punches
Butterflies (I think its a Carl punch) edged with pink chalk & highlighted with Stickles glitter glue
Roses are bought ones
STEPPER CARD

One of our daughter Catherine's friends is having a baby boy - so, here is the card I made for her.
Another 'drawer' type card.  Thanks to Colette Smith for the inspiration behind this card.

The Marianne 'Snoesjes' stamp, coloured in with watercolour pencils and placed on a Marianne die.  The Teddy Bears were cut with two different size punches and the hanger from the Cricut Cartridge 'Everyday Paper Dolls'.  Both the bow tie and shirt cut by hand.

ALADDIN'S CAVE

Joan's shop is like an Aladdin's Cave - if only one could go into the shop with a 'pot of gold' to buy lots of the great papers, stamps and dies.

The new Mariaan dies and vintage ladies stamps are lovely and on this card I utilised one of the stamps and the great  new flourish.  The round dies are from 'Simply 2-die-4' which I have surrounded with small flat backed pearls and at the top I have used a Joy die for the leaves and made quilling flowers with flat backed pearls in the centre. The greeting was computer generated.

LOADS OF FUN

The Cricut Cartridge - Tags, Bags, Boxes & More 2 is giving me loads of fun.  The following card is cut so easily and quickly and lends itself to many different ways of decoration.  Have shown friends how to make this card and they all loved it.

WEAVING USING SCRAPS

Bought the South African 'Craftwise' magazine and this card was demonstrated by Fransie Snyman who has also written a book 'Cards Galore'.

What a lot of fun I had using scraps - now I know why all scraps are 'saved'.  Thank you Fransie for sharing your idea with us in the magazine.

MENS BOX CARD

This is a 'snazzy' box card - both the front and back are part of the box (cut as one piece), but are attached to the 'box' with Velcro strips, thereby enabling one to open the little box.  Made using the cartridge 'Tags, Bags, Boxes and more 2'.

VICTORIAN ROMANCE

My daughter, Catherine and husband Walter gave me two Cricut Cartridges for my birthday.  Lucky me.  The first card I made using the above cartridge turned out to be a bit dull!!  However, I showed two friends how to make the card and we used browns instead of the greys - much nicer I think.

CARD WITH ENVELOPE AT THE BACK

Attended a class where we made this card.  As usual if I like a card I make 2 or 3!  Here they are all together.

For the card in the middle I used flowers from a 3D Decoupage sheet and the other two have 'cut outs' from Cricut Cartridges.  The bird is too cute and comes from (of all things) 'Four Legged Friends' cartridge.

Thank you Hendrien for an easy and useful card.
